Amari is not “bad at mathematics.”

Amari understands basic addition and confidently adds single digits. Today, however, a two-digit problem exposes a specific misunderstanding: the ones are added correctly, but the tens are not being kept in their proper place.

The wrong answer becomes useful information.

Nova does not treat a wrong answer as the end of the conversation. It treats the answer as a clue about what the child may understand—and what still needs another explanation.
